At Poplar HARCA we recognise and value the immense contribution that volunteering adds to society.

Volunteering offers multiple benefits all round; for the individual and their families, the organisation and the wider community as a whole.

There are so many ways to get involved, from leading a community group to supporting one of our fantastic events. With both one-off and ongoing roles, there’s something for everyone.

Bushra

Homework Club & Family Fun Club Volunteer

Bushra provides support to families in the Aberfeldy Centre, helping children and parents with personal development opportunities.

Poplar Works Fashion Volunteer

Helga plays a key role supporting the Accents team to deliver the Poplar Works programme. This includes exploring and researching new opportunities for Poplar Works such as funding, events, enterprise initiatives, promotional opportunities and partnerships.

Bow Brew Cafe Volunteer

Kamrul was keen to support a cafe that is valuable to their community, whilst learning about cafe management, barista work and foods.

University Placement Student

Samira is studying Applied Social Sciences, Youth Work and Community Development at Goldsmiths University. She has been taking part in a work placement at Bow Community Hub as part of her university degree.

Communications Support Volunteer

Originally from Spain, Tisma is pursuing a master's degree in Environment and Development at King's College London whilst assisting Poplar HARCA's community centres with creating and building awareness and engagement through social media.
